Suppose that, in the near future, a new medical advancement was proven in the most respected scientific journal to reduce MIS-diagnosis TEN-fold? No longer One-in-Three patients receiving the wrong treatment, with costs and side-effects, while the Real Problem is ignored, worsening? Only One-in-Thirty would suffer, instead. That sounds like something doctors would want to use, if they were actually interested in patient-care and outcomes. It’s their Hippocratic Oath, in fact. NOPE! Doc don’ care.

This new medical technology is ALSO thousands of times CHEAPER than the alternatives. And, we can mass-produce it easily, so that EVERYONE receives this amazing level of care, FAST. And, it keeps improving every year!

It’s a Chatbot.

Doctors, who should be leaping at the chance to utilize MedBots for diagnosis, are stalwart AGAINST it. My own GP said, when I mentioned that chatbots were proven in scientific publications to be better at diagnosis? “For MY sake, I hope NOT!” I had to correct her: “Aren’t you supposed to be seeking whatever is best for MY sake? That is your oath.” No reply. Awkward.

Doctors know that we would prefer this world:

“I noticed a weird symptom, which made me think back to all the other stuff this week, which is when I realized a pattern of other symptoms, and now I’m laying in bed worrying. I know what to do! Hey, personalized-and-encrypted-Ai-Medbot, let me tell you EVERYTHING while you listen patiently and respectfully for as long as I need, while I snuggle warmly under blankets. And, as you transcribe what I say, I am watching those words on the screen, able to CORRECT you every time and add CLARIFICATIONS. Then, in less than a minute of compute, you have charted all my symptoms in your vast brain, to decide WHICH questions to ask NEXT, in order to exclude each possible source. In only fifteen minutes of back-and-forth, the MedBot presents likely and possible causes, with a list of the diagnostics I would need, in order to determine what I ACTUALLY have. The MedBot askes for permission to my calendar, to schedule those diagnostics. When I arrive at the stated time there, in a week, I will be seen IMMEDIATELY. I pay as much as I would for a reservation at a fancy restaurant; if Hospitals cannot manage to provide the same quality of service, then they are not competent to the task. As each diagnostic is pinged to my phone, then I am told what is excluded in Chatbot ‘tell-me-like-I’m-five’ with innumerable follow-up questions from me! My prescription is auto-filled and mailed to my address. It all cost $200 of real expenses. The Doctor is OUT. Everyone may be seen, now.”

As soon as people are finally ALLOWED to engage with medicine and health that way, then it will prove the lie: Doctors had been standing in the way, avoiding any real help toward this revolution for patient-care. They would rather keep scamming you until their mortgage is paid. They do NOT want you to see how much more accurate, accessible, affordable, and fast the alternative *actually* is, already.

They have violated their Oath, and we will not remember them with admiration. Doc, once you are replaced by a MedBot, then you might want to lie to folks and say you were an accountant. Otherwise, you’ll only hear an earful about how much better MedBot is, compared to you. It’s awkward.
